About Us

Dave started racing go-karts in 1979 and established GT Machine in 1984. Through the years, he raced himself and with his son and daughter. His precise machining ability comes from 20 years of experience at Grumman Aerospace where he machined parts for passenger planes to fighter jets to the space shuttle.

GT Machine has operated full-time since 1994. Sue Koehler runs the office and parts trailer at the track and Dave Koehler builds engines and works with racers at the track with engine and chassis tuning and driver instruction, if requested. They have attended the Gold Cup Nationals since 1994 and have been sponsoring the Grand Nationals for many years. Dave is a long time member of the Gold Cup Competition Committee and the WKA 4-Cycle Tech Committee. Not only does Dave run a go-kart business, he also promotes and upholds the integrity of kart racing.

GT Machine is a full-service kart shop. We are recognized for our national winning engines. We have experience in all facets of 4-cycle racing including sprint, enduro, pavement and dirt.

Along with running GT Machine, Dave and Sue operated Sandy Hook Speedway in Street, Maryland for 15 years. The program there included asphalt oval and sprint club and divisional programs. Dave also taught driving schools during this time which lead to Sandy Hook racers being some of the best in the country. We are proud to have been a part of this great racing community.

What Dave loves most is working with the kids and teaching them about racing and how to be fast on the track. Over the years, many of our kids have become national champions, numerous times over.

All of our customers are important to us from local club members to our national competitors. We love working with new racers as well as the very experienced racer. Helping all our customers get faster is our goal.

In the fall of 2011, GT Machine moved into its new location in Longs, SC. Our new engine shop will allow us to better serve our customers. We will continue to travel the Gold Cup circuit and look forward to expanding our sprint and oval programs.
